NEXT Steps Kicks-Off our Third Annual Herb & Farm Summer Internship at Atwood Community Gardens

June 4th officially kicked off our 2012 Herb & Farm Summer Internship at Atwood Community Gardens.  In our third season, we will help seven local at-risk boys form their new lawn care and landscaping business called The Youth of Westview.  The boys range in age from 9-14 and live in the Westview Community.

The Westview Neighborhood Organization started a fund to pay them $15 per week on the condition they come to work every day at Atwood.  Their youth leaders are Mr. & Mrs. John & Pat Perdew – the community grandparents.  Together, in just 16 months, The Perdews have helped provide care and assistance to over 28 children in the community.  They also serve as mentors and garden instructors for The NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program.
