As Founder of the NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program, I was interviewed today by Ahzjah Simons for her Co-op News segment on WRFG Radio 89.3FM Atlanta. Ms. Simons gave me a wonderful platform to promote our educational programs and most recent successes. What a great way to bring more attention to the great work that we have been doing to equip the kids that look to NEXT Steps to get real-time preparation for today’s competitive work place and job market.
We ask that the we continue to receive favor from Atlanta’s volunteer and philanthropic community in helping us continue our important work. For upcoming NEXT Steps events, tickets for The Cooking Gene: Southern Discomfort Tour can be purchased at our Eventbrite merchant site. Reservations and donations for our 2012 Youth Culinary Tour can be made online as well. June’s featured chef will be Jalen Valencia Harris (age 11) who will teach kids how to make a sweet corn salsa using naturally grown, garden fresh corn, banana peppers, tomatoes and chives.
In collaboration with the Harland Boys & Girls Club (434 Peeples Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30310), 2012 H&F Summer Training Program— an eight week farm and farmer’s market management program that teaches kids business strategy, special event management, investigative research and discovery activities, service-learning, urban agritourism and environmental stewardship. ($45/week). Lastly, don’t forget to visit Sevenanda Natural Foods during the month of August to support our fundraiser as their “Be The Change” honoree.
As always, donations are what keep our doors open! Please continue to give to the NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program. Every dollar goes towards programming and securing educational and training materials for the kids. We are still raising funds to purchase the remainder of our cooking supplies for the upcoming youth culinary tour $250 (3 cutting boards, mixing bowls, mixing utensils, and spices from the DeKalb Farmers Market). Donations can be mailed to NEXT Steps Inc., 1890-A Briarcliff Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30329 or made online via PayPal: firstname.lastname@example.org.
